So, what is "Dharma"?

"Dharma is a sanskrit word that refers to your life purpose or the path you follow toward the highest expression of your own nature.  Finding your personal Dharma will help you to achieve the fulfillment of your responsibilities to yourself, to others, to your society, and to the planet.

Our mission at the Dharma Room is to provide each and every person the nurturing space and plentiful resources to find their personal dharma...their expression of peace, health, happiness and well-being.

Yoga Philosophy Theme of the Week

Shaucha

We now begin to explore the five Niyamas, which are constructive tools for the inner work that gives rise to the ability to really put spirituality into practice in our daily lives.

Shaucha means "purification; cleanliness".  It includes a number of techniques for cleansing the body as well as the mind, and it has even been called the aim of the entire system of yoga.  The sages say that shaucha is not only the foundation for bodily health, it is also the doorway to deeper and more tranquil states of meditation.

Practice tip:  Select wisely from the many choices of food, emotions, and thoughts waiting to come into your body and mind.  As the body becomes purified you will experience radiant health;  as the mind becomes purified, you will feel increasingly clear, friendly and cheerful.
